7 of the Best Essential Oils for Face Care

I absolutely love using essential oils in my face care routine! After using them my face feels so clean, smooth and tight! I love it!

I use these seven essential oils in moisturizing face oils, salt scrubs, and more for optimal results. My mom and sister are now in love with these blends as well and use them regularly. Once you start you definitely won’t want to stop!

And don’t forget! The carrier oils for essential oils that you choose to use should also be appropriate for the purpose of your blend! Choose a carrier that is best for your skin type and your face to add your favorite skin care oils to.

Essential oils are amazing for beauty and body care and a great way to pamper yourself.

I love to use them in my skin care products as well to decrease wrinkles, stretch marks, dry skin, and so much more!

These are all things that as a mother of four I have experienced! But it doesn’t have to be so!

Recently my youngest daughter, who dances a lot, was complaining that her feet were really dry and cracked. I took a look and poor thing, I don’t know how she was even able to keep dancing they looked so painful.

I immediately whipped up a batch of my pampered feet massage oil and after just one application there was noticeable improvement! The crack under her toe had closed up and wasn’t hurting anymore. I knew it would do the trick, after just a few applications of that blend feet feel sooo silky smooth! Who needs pedicures when you’ve got this?!

As an Aromatherapist I get asked a lot to create blends such as these. And, (not to toot my own horn;) after quite a few years I’ve managed to make some extremely popular skin and body care recipes that clients keep coming back to buy.

I’ve hesitated in the past to share these recipes. After all I made them! The products I make with them are in high demand and I just couldn’t bring myself to share my secret skin care weapons…. you know, recipes;)

But I finally decided that it would be easier to share the recipes than to ship everyone a bottle of each blend!

So I made a new recipe binder that includes all of my clients’ most popular blends. I also personally use these recipes and can’t imagine my daily routine without them!

If you like to pamper yourself, or if you or someone you know has a skin care need then be sure to check out the Essential Oil Beauty & Body Care Binder. It will definitely be a part of your daily routine!

Essential Oils for Skin

Fennel Essential Oil

Fennel Essential Oil

Fennel is one of my favorite essential oils! The fennel oil that I use is harvested in Egypt from the seeds of organic fennel plants.

I love to use fennel for the face. It is said that fennel is beneficial for all skin types. How cool is that?! Whether you have oily, dry, or mature skin this oil is amazing! It is also said to be a great oil for wrinkles.

Fennel is an oil that I also use for overall skin care, which you can read more about in my post 7 of the Best Essential Oils for Skin.

Fennel is also touted as being a great moisturizing oil. Combine that with a moisturizing carrier oil for a luxurious facial massage oil!

Fennel is an oil that many use to firm and tighten skin for a more youthful appearance, especially facial skin. Some users even claim that fennel has helped them to tighten their breast tissue, decreasing sagging! Apparently it’s an oil added to European body oils. I’ve personally never tried fennel for this purpose, but hey, it might be something to try;)

I include fennel in my Skin Tightening Facial Scrub. It helps to remove dead skin, and leaves the face feeling tight, smooth and silky! This is definitely one of my favorite skin care blends! I keep my jar in the shower and use it to wash and cleanse my face instead of soap. I love how it helps to diminish blackheads in addition to tightening the skin!

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense Essential Oil

Ahh frankincense! Just thinking about frankincense makes me feel relaxed:) If you’ve been following me long then you know that frankincense is my all time favorite oil! I absolutely love and crave the smell of frankincense! Frankincense has a woody, rich scent.

Frankincense is said to be a great oil for those that have fears. I mean, hey, I’m a mom! I worry, I sometimes panic, I stress about things, it’s what moms do! So if you also tend to be a worry wart, or if you are a mom (goes with the territory;) then get a bottle of frankincense! I literally just hold the bottle under my nose and breathe deeply during crazy life moments. Sooo relaxing!

Frankincense is good for many things, which you can read about in my post Why You Should Use Frankincense Essential Oil. But right now we’re going to talk about why you should use frankincense for the face.

Frankincense has been used in beauty treatments since before the time of Cleopatra. Also it’s scent was still present in King Tut’s tomb when it was opened in 1922. So it definitely has a very rich history!

According to JennScents Institute’s Introduction to Holistic Aromatherapy, frankincense essential oil is helpful for aging, wrinkles, dryness, and scars.

An excellent oil for skin repair and rejuvenation!

It is also said to help balance oily skin and is an oil that I use in my Moisturizing Facial Blend. This blend is one of my mom’s favorites! It smells amazing and is excellent for moisturizing the face, diminishing fine lines, and for making your skin feel amazing!

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood is a rich, luxurious oil with a history in skin care! It was used in ancient times by nobles in the royal court to benefit the skin.

The scent of sandalwood is very earthy and woodsy, yet sweet.

Sandalwood is an oil that I add to my Skin Spot Reducer blend. I love this blend for minimizing skin spots, reducing wrinkles, and firming the skin. A friend of mine loves to use this blend and swears by it after seeing the brown spots on her face diminish!

It is also said to help balance oil gland secretions making it a great choice for both oily and dry skin.

Palmarosa Essential Oil

Palmarosa Essential Oil

Palmarosa has a floral like, sweet, yet earthy scent. I love the smell of palmarosa!

It’s such an emotionally balancing oil, which is also a plus when adding it to your facial care products! When I use palmarosa, and each of these other seven essential oils, I feel so happy and relaxed! It truly is an amazing feeling, not only for the skin but for the emotionally grounding feeling that they provide!

According to Be Young Total Health’s Desk Reference, palmarosa is an oil that, during the 1970s, prominent movie stars used to achieve their flawless, ageless skin! They state that this oil reduces pore size and reduces acne and other skin irritations. Just another reason why I include it in each of the blends that I mentioned above!

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils and probably one that you are familiar with.

The scent of lavender is very soothing, calming and relaxing, and is used in many body care and cleaning products. Definitely a scent that most are familiar with.

Lavender is a great oil to add to a carrier oil, your lotion, the bath, pretty much anything!

I personally use lavender in my Acne Facial Cleanse, Shaving Gel For Men, Shaving Gel For Women, Poison Ivy Relief Blend, Skin Softener Lotion, Baby Massage Oil, Eczema Salve, Scar Reducer Blend, and Aftershave, etc. As you can see it’s a very versatile oil that is great for many skin care situations and a must have for every facial blend!

Lavender is also said to helpful with burns. Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, a French scientist who coined the term “aromatherapy”, burned his hand in 1910 in a lab experiment. He quickly soaked his hand in lavender oil helping his hand to heal quickly with no scarring!

Myrrh Essential Oil

Myrrh Essential Oil

This is another oil that has been prized for thousands of years for its amazing properties! The Egyptians used Myrrh as an ingredient in their famous perfume.

I especially love myrrh for it’s benefit for wounds and skin repair. Myrrh is also said to useful for chapped lips and cold sores. I use it in my Mouthwash blend.

Myrrh is another oil that I include in all of my face care blends! It leaves the face feeling smooth and refreshed!

Essential Oils For Face

Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli, often referred to as the hippie oil as it was very popular in the ‘60s and ‘70s, is an earthy, woodsy scented oil.

In my experience it’s an oil that people either love or hate. When added to a blend though I find that the scent blends really well! I use it in most of my skin care products.

JennScents Institute’s Introduction to Holistic Aromatherapy says that patchouli essential oil is not only a great oil for skin irritations, wrinkles, and fine lines, but that it is very grounding and a great oil for ‘letting go’.

Those are seven of my favorite face care essential oils. I use each and every one of them in my face care blends and absolutely love them!
