15 Essential Oils To Help Ease Holiday Stress and Sadness!

Essential oils are probably best know for their calming and relaxing properties.

In fact the herbs they are derived from are known for these things as well!

When we see a bath and body product in a store that is lavender scented we immediately think of being calm and peaceful and getting a good nights sleep!

Essential oils have historically been used for not just this, but many many emotions!

So, if you find that the holidays have gotten you down, if you want to enjoy the holidays but feel overburdened with the cares that accompany it, or if you are dreading the holidays due to the loss of loved ones, turn to aromatherapy!

When life gets me down I turn to my essential oils! They are like friends that are there to comfort me when I need them!

These 15 essential oils will help to ease holiday stress and sadness, helping you to have a merry Christmas!


Essential Oils For Stress

1. Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender Essential Oil

As I mentioned above, lavender is a very soothing, calming essential oil.

It helps to calm the nerves, soothe irritability, anger and frustration.

I love to use Lavender not only for moments of stress and frustration, but at bedtime as well, to help encourage a peaceful nights sleep!

2. Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot is a sweet smelling citrus oil and is very uplifting and encouraging!

It is a soothing oil that is great for calming during life’s stresses!

I love its floral, sweet scent!

3. Peppermint Essential Oil

I love peppermint for it’s invigorating qualities!

Peppermint is cool, minty and helps to stimulate the mind.

It helps me to think clearly and get’s my blood flowing!

With my peppermint in hand I’m ready to take on the day!

As a matter of fact, I’m using peppermint essential oil right now in my Peppermint Cafe Con Leche made with goat milk! It is delicious, and invigorating!

4. Lemon Essential Oil

When life gives you lemons, make essential oil!

Lemon goes very well, if I do say so myself, with peppermint.

In fact, I use them both together in my Essential Oil Liver Cleanse!

Like peppermint, lemon is very stimulating.

I love to use lemon essential oil when I’m fatigued, sluggish and need a rejuvenation of the mind!

5. Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil

Cinnamon Leaf essential oil is spicy, hot and sharp!

It’s an excellent oil to use to warm a home around the holidays!

It helps to calm and relax while creating a happy atmosphere.

6. Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

Ylang Ylang is another great relaxing oil!

It also works as a great aphrodisiac and is excellent for low self-confidence.

When my grandfather passed away I created a blend for my mother to use while she was grieving. It contained Ylang Ylang essential oil!

7. Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium is an oil that is often used to adulterate rose essential oil because it has a very similar scent.

Traditionally geranium has been used for stress and tension.

I always find that when I feel overwhelmed or stressed, geranium helps to calm me and ease my tension!

8. Rose Essential Oil

Scent is not the only thing that geranium and rose have in common!

They are also both aphrodisiacs and it is also an oil that I used in my mom’s grief blend!

I love the scent of rose and I use it in a spray to spray my pillow and sheets before bed.

It smells like I’m sleeping on a bed of rose petals:)

9. Orange Essential Oil

The citrus oils are all such uplifting oils!

Orange is very balancing, cheerful, and positive!

10. Pine Essential Oil

Pine is a great oil to use during the holidays!

It smells very forest-like, kind of like Christmas trees:)

But, in addition to its clean holiday scent, it’s also very uplifting, energizing and a great oil to use when you are just mentally tired!

11. Patchouli Essential Oil

Now, if you grew up in the 60’s you are probably familiar with this oil:)

It is very earthy and woodsy smelling.

But, it is an excellent scent to help encourage emotional release. I use it in my kid’s Night Fright Spray to help let go of bad dreams.

It is calming, relaxing, and a great meditation oil!

12. Rosewood Essential Oil

This is also a very woodsy smelling oil, but it also contains a hint of floral.

It is an oil I like to use when feeling overwhelmed.

And who doesn’t get overwhelmed during the holidays, am I right?!

It calms and relaxes while helping to ease feelings of sadness.

13. Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil

This is the last citrus oil on our list.

It, like the other citrus oils, is very uplifting.

I love grapefruit to help pull me out of a bad mood and to help me to snap out of a funk so that I have the energy and desire to get things done!

14. Jasmine Essential Oil

Jasmine is such an elegant, romantic oil!

It is very uplifting, and great for easing upset and stress!

15. Basil Essential Oil

Now, you might be thinking, “what?! Basil?! I cook with that!”

Yes! Basil is a great essential oil and herb for pulling out of a funk. I love basil for sadness, darkness and clearing the mind.
