Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

Eggs are a staple in my home. Having chickens we get a pretty continual supply of eggs, which is really nice!

We love fried eggs, scrambled eggs, egg sandwiches, curried egg salad, deviled eggs, and of course decorating eggs at Easter!

To make the last three kinds of eggs though, the eggs need to be hard boiled. I used to hard boil my eggs using the traditional method on the stove.

But once I got an Instant Pot (you know that thing that makes life in the kitchen awesome;) I decided to try cooking my eggs in there.

It is SOOOO easy!

How to Boil Eggs in the Instant Pot

Alright, so, if you’re here then you probably already have an Instant Pot. Or, maybe you’re trying to convince yourself that you NEED one!

Let me make it simple for you…..you do!!!

Stop what you’re doing right now and go get an Instant Pot here! It will be delivered to your door and you will be hard boiling eggs in no time:)

If you already have your Instant Pot, then let’s hard boil some eggs!

All you need for this process is:

3 cups of water

Eggs (up to a dozen work best)

An Egg Tray for the Instant Pot

Instant Pot

And that’s it! Seems pretty simple right?

Now, I have the Instant Pot Ultra, which means it has it’s own egg setting. Awesome right?!

Simply place the egg tray in the bottom of the Instant Pot and add 3 cups of water.

Next gently place your eggs on the rack. Arrange them to fit all of the eggs. I find that the tray I use will hold up to a dozen eggs. But the tray above (which looks way nicer than mine!) looks like it will hold more.

After all the eggs are arranged lock the lid in place and select the egg setting.

If you are not using the Instant Pot Ultra, and do not have an egg setting, then you want to set your Instant Pot to high pressure for five minutes.

That’s right, five minutes! Thats all it has to cook!

Now it will take a little longer because the Instant Pot has to preheat and then cool down after cooking. But still it’s only about ten minutes or so total. And it’s so nice to not have to worry about a pot boiling over on the stove! Just set it and forget it!

Easy Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

Once your eggs are finished cooking and your Instant Pot is safe to open (follow Instant Pot directions to know when it’s safe to open the lid), you might be wondering what to do next.

Before your eggs can be eaten or prepared they need to be peeled. Which is a pain, am I right?!

But there is a way to make peeling boiled eggs easier!

Before I remove my eggs from the Instant Pot I prepare a bowl of ice water.

Then, using tongs, I remove the hot eggs one at a time from the Instant Pot and gently place them in the bowl of ice water.

Once they are all in the bowl let them sit for about 5-10 minutes.

Going rapidly from hot to cold will help the peels to come off of the eggs easier!
