Yes, you heard me right! The Organic Goat Lady (the heath nut) is telling you that you NEED Sugar!

Why A Sugar Free Household Should Still Buy Sugar!

Probiotic Drinks – Why You Should Still Use Sugar!

Being a mother, an Aromatherapist and a Health Coach, I strive to be healthy and I strive to raise a healthy family.

I raise dairy goats so that my family can have fresh raw milk, I raise chickens and guineas so that we can have fresh free range eggs and chicken.

I am trying to improve my garden skills so that we can have lots and lots of fresh organic vegetables and I am a big fan of the Weston Price foundation.

So you are probably wondering why I’m telling you that you need to buy sugar?!

Before you begin to panic, or to get excited;), let me say that the sugar is not for you!

What?!

That’s right, I’m not telling you to start eating spoonfuls of sugar, or to even start using sugar in your cooking and baking.

But, there are two very good reasons for buying sugar that will improve your health!

These two things will improve gut health, boost the immune system and benefit the body as a whole.

Reason number 1 for buying sugar:

Kombucha Tea!

Kombucha is Fermented tea and Kombucha eats sugar!

That’s right, the sugar is to feed your Kombucha culture.

Kombucha contains beneficial bacteria and yeast, making it a very healthy beverage.

The Kombucha culture, called a SCOBY, eats the sugar and in return deposits good bacteria. So no worries, The sugar in Kombucha is NOT FOR YOU!

According to Hannah Crum of Kombucha Kamp, Kombucha’s most popular origin story stretches back over 2000 years to China and it has been the subject of many 100’s of studies over the last century.

In countries around the world, including Russia, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Ireland and right here in the United States among many other places, Kombucha tea and cultures are used in medical treatments and beauty products.

And while Kombucha does not cure anything and is just a food, People loyaly drink it for the following reasons:

Contains living bacteria and yeast

Substituted for sugary sodas or multiple trips to the coffee pot

Acts as a snack or pre-meal hunger control

Alkalizes like vinegar or lemon juice – balances internal pH

Compounds in the drink may bond to and help excrete toxins from the liver – happy liver = happy mood

May speed metabolism

The acids present may improve digestion or alleviate constipation

Improved flexibility & fluidity of movement

Smooth energy from low levels of tea

Relieve headaches & migraines

Antioxidants & polyphenols from the tea are partially fermented and so more bioavailable

Kills h.pylori on contact

Certain acids present are considered candida-cides

Reason number 2 for buying sugar:

Water Kefir!

Water Kefir is another great reason to buy sugar!

Once again though, the sugar is not for you, it’s for the Water Kefir Grains

There are a lot of similarities between Kombucha and Water Kefir.

Just like Kombucha, Kefir is a fermented drink that you can make at home.

Water Kefir, which is made from different “grains” than the Milk Kefir, is made from water and sugar.

Additionally, since it is a fermented drink, once the culture has been established, it can be reused to create multiple batches.

Unlike Kombucha, the Kefir fermentation process is a lot faster; often only taking a day or two instead of a week or two.

Water Kefir is chock full of healthy nutrients and probiotics!

Water Kefir Grains

The “grains” that are used to create Kefir are not actual grains but are actually a polysaccharide matrix containing a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (just like a Kombucha SCOBY).

Unlike Kombucha SCOBYs, the Kefir grains are more delicate and susceptible to changes in temperature and even starvation if they run out of “fuel”.

The Kefir grains used to make Milk Kefir thrive by consuming lactose (milk sugar).

However, sucrose (aka table sugar) acts as the fuel for the organisms used to ferment Water Kefir.
